NIKON Z7 II OVERVIEW

The Nikon Z7 II builds on everything the first model did well and enhances it even further with better processing and increased versatility while maintaining a familiar design. With its dual EXPEED 6 image processors and high-resolution 45.7MP FX-format BSI CMOS sensor, the Z7 II is obviously designed for photographers who place a premium on fine details.

The optical low-pass filter is not included in the sensor's architecture, allowing for better detail recording, and the sensor offers native sensitivity ranges as low as ISO 64 for lush, rich capture. A quicker 10 fps continuous shooting rate and a larger buffer for working with moving subjects are additional results of updated processing. Additionally, UHD 4K 60p video is enabled, and N-Log or HLG (HDR) recording in 10-bit externally is an option. The sensor also features a 493-point phase-detection AF system, which can focus in low light down to -4.5 EV and now enables Eye-Detect AF in Wide-Area AF settings and during movie recording. Additionally, with any mounted lens, 5-axis in-body Vibration Reduction helps to reduce the appearance of camera shake.

The Z7 II maintains its overall physical form while balancing the imaging, but it has been enhanced with a new dual memory card slot interface that can accommodate one one SD UHS-II card  and CFexpress Type B card for more versatile storage. Both the rear 3.2" 2.1m-dot tilting touchscreen LCD and the high-resolution 3.6m-dot OLED EVF offer versatility for image composition and playback. SnapBridge wireless connectivity can be used for remote camera operation, image sharing to a mobile device, and even over-the-air software updates.

Dual EXPEED 6 Processors and 45.7MP FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor

In order to facilitate continuous shooting, movies, and time-lapse recording, a 45.7MP BSI CMOS sensor is used. It also boasts exceptional low-light quality and quick readout times. The sensor's back-illuminated construction enables significantly clean high-sensitivity output and decreased noise while operating at high ISO values, up to a native ISO 25600, as well as vibrant and smooth clarity at sensitivities as low as ISO 64. In order to get the best clarity and resolution out of the sensor, the traditional optical low-pass filter was also left out of the design. Dual EXPEED 6 image processors benefit the sensor by enabling a plethora of speed across the camera system, including the capacity to shoot continuously at 10 fps for as much as 50 consecutive frames.

UHD 4K Video Recording

The Z7 II is a more-than-capable multimedia camera since it uses the sensor and processor's capabilities for purposes other than still images. Up to 120p Full HD 1080p video recording is supported for slow motion playback, as well as up to 60p UHD 4K video recording. The in-camera memory cards can be used to store video recordings, or an optional external recorder via HDMI out can receive them as an uncompressed file.

The Z7 II now has more sophisticated video features, like as HLG (HDR) for recording HDR-ready footage and N-Log gamma for flattened film that maximises dynamic range. Other improvements include an Electronic VR feature for fluid handheld filming and the ability to export high-quality 10-bit data over HDMI. In addition to a Zebra Stripes feature that may be used to detect overexposed parts of the frame, Focus Peaking can be utilised to improve manual focus control. Live monitoring is enabled via the headphone jack, and audio recording can be handled using the built-in stereo microphone or an extra external mic that can be attached via the 3.5mm stereo port for better control over quality.

493-Point Phase-Detect AF System

An array of 493 phase-detect autofocus points on the sensor is responsible for 90% of the image's vertical and horizontal coverage. With a wide coverage area, subject tracking will extend to the corners of the frame. This enables quick and precise focusing for both still images and video. For smooth focus during recording, hybrid AF is an option, which will automatically swap between phase- and contrast-detect systems. The newest NIKKOR Z lenses are also designed to operate quietly.

Vibration Reduction

Regardless of the Z-type lens being utilised, in-body 5-axis sensor-shift Vibration Reduction can reduce camera shake by up to 5 stops. When employing the extra FTZ Adapter and 3-axis stabilisation, this system also functions with modified F-mount lenses.

NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S Lens

The NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens, a standard zoom that covers a wide-angle to portrait-length range and has a constant f/4 maximum aperture, is included with the camera body. In order to achieve excellent sharpness and accurate colour rendering, the optical design includes both a single aspherical element and a singular aspherical extra-low dispersion element, both of which significantly reduce a variety of aberrations and distortion. For greater contrast under low lighting, a nano crystal coating is also employed to reduce flare and ghosting. A stepping AF motor is also included for smooth, almost silent autofocus performance, making it suitable for both photo and video applications.
