OVERVIEW

The AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR Lens from Nikon has a versatile zoom range and is distinguished by a constant maximum aperture of f/5.6 for consistent performance over the whole zoom range. To eliminate chromatic aberrations and distortions for improved sharpness and colour accuracy, the optical design uses three extra-low dispersion glass elements. Lens elements have received a Super Integrated Coating to reduce flare and ghosting for better contrast and clarity, which also contributes to improved image quality.

This lens was made to work with FX image sensors, but it is also compatible with DX sensors and will offer a 300-750mm equivalent focal length range on those sensors.

All over the zoom range, performance is consistent due to the Constant f/5.6 maximum aperture

To generate more clarity and colour accuracy, three extra-low dispersion components significantly reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations.

When working in strong lighting settings, a Super Integrated Coating has been applied to specific parts to reduce internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for increased contrast and colour accuracy.

With full-time manual focus override, Silent Wave Motor offers rapid, quiet, and precise autofocus performance. In order to retain the overall length of the lens while in use and to encourage faster focusing speeds, an internal focusing design is also employed, in which only the internal lens groups are shifted during focusing.

When using this lens in low-light situations, vibration reduction image stabilisation helps to reduce the appearance of camera shake for up to 4.5 shutter speed stops. A specific Sport Mode is also ideally suited for use in hectic situations where panning and other lateral camera motions are more frequent.

A rotating tripod collar provides well-balanced stability for shooting from atop a tripod or monopod in either a vertical or horizontal shooting configuration.

Greater exposure control stability is offered via a specialised electromagnetic aperture system, which is especially useful when working with rapid continuous shooting rates.
